Cherokee County School District students for the second consecutive year have earned top honors in a statewide career skills competition!
A team of Cherokee High School students placed first in the SkillsUSA Welding Fabrication Competition and now advances to the SkillsUSA National Competition in Atlanta in June. The team last year after earning gold at states went on to place sixth in the nation.
Team members are seniors Carter Goodrow, Braden Iovino and Michael Pugachow and junior James Williams, and their coach is Career Pathways welding teacher Darryl Jones.
The Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower will recognize the team at an upcoming school board meeting.
Cherokee High’s construction team also succeeded at the state competition, earning third-place in the statewide SkillsUSA Construction Competition for their woodworking display. The team of juniors Mac Blackwell and Jamie McCord built a log cabin to earn the state honor. Their coaches are Mr. Jones and Career Pathways construction teacher Scott O’Bryant.
“Congratulations to these outstanding teams on earning statewide honors for their exceptional skilled profession abilities,” Dr. Hightower said. “Career Pathways play an important role in our high school course offerings, as they teach students valuable job-specific skills as well as workplace and life skills useful to all of us.
