Cherokee County School District leaders this week gathered for their annual workshop to learn more about new programs and initiatives for the coming school year.

The day at Cherokee High School began with presentations by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower on leadership and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), followed by break-out sessions with central office staff on topics such as CCSD’s tougher new repercussions for vaping on campus, and a speech by Georgia Teacher of the Year Tracey Pendley on creating equity in education.

The workshop is part of the two-day Superintendent’s Leadership Symposium, which was made possible by Presenting Sponsors, Cherokee County Educational Foundation and Northside Hospital Cherokee; and Platinum Sponsors, ABM Industry Groups, Credit Union of Georgia, Goshen Valley and HP.  The first day of the Symposium featured nationally renowned educator, speaker and author Dr. Tyrone Howard.

“We greatly appreciate the support of community partners that enables us to bring our leaders together to hear from education thought leaders, share best practices and learn from each other,” Dr. Hightower said.

The workshop also included presentations by CCSD partners including the Cherokee County Council of PTA, Goshen Valley and the Service League of Cherokee County on the services they provide to schools and students in need.
