Optional Summer Reading Opportunities

Looking for some Summer Reading Opportunities (all are optional)

The  Cherokee County Curriculum and Instruction Division is excited to share Summer Reading opportunities for you.  By following the directions on the link, students can access thousands of free books for to read throughout the summer.  Books can be sorted by grade level, interest level, reading level, etc.  Students may also access instructions by clicking on the following link:  Summer Reading.

 

Another opportunity for Summer Reading can be through Tome Society. The list of  Jr. Tome Society It List books for middle school can be found here. Tome Society It List  Be sure to scroll down to the Jr Tome Society Section. All of these books are available at your local public library.

 

Finally, our digital library (ebooks and audiobooks) is available for check out all summer. Students log in using there school computer username and password. Destiny Online

Summer School Registration Forms Now Online summer school

Registration forms now are online for CCSD's summer school learning opportunities from June 5-25 for high school students including rising ninth-graders.

In addition to offering a wide selection of courses for students who need to retake classes not passed during the regular school year, Personal Fitness and Health courses will be offered for initial high school credit.

The Cherokee County School District is beginning a new service for families registering students for school.

The Centralized Summer Registration Center will allow parents to complete the process for registering students -- in any grade who will be new to CCSD for the 2019-20 school year -- early in the summer break, rather than waiting for school front offices to reopen.

Check the Student Activities Page. We try to list how sponsors communicate meetings, practices and rehearsals with parents. If nothing is listed, you may contact the sponsor by email.

Wednesday’s is Menchie’s Day at Dean Rusk.  Students can buy a Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt during their lunch period for $3.00.

Board Briefs: School Board Appoints Social and Emotional Learning Leader, New Principals CCSD leadership changes 7 19 19

The Cherokee County School Board on Thursday, July 18, 2019 appointed a longtime CCSD leader to head up the new Social and Emotional Learning initiative, as well as several resulting Principal changes.  

Dr. Debra Murdock, the former Principal of Cherokee High School and Georgia High School Principal of the Year, who has most recently served as the School Operations’ executive director overseeing middle and high schools, will take on the newly created role focused on developing new ways to better support students’ and employees’ emotional and mental health and well-being.

Each school’s front office will be open daily beginning Monday, July 15; hours are limited, so please call before visiting.

Free Reading Resources Can Stop the 'Summer Slide' books

When children do not read during the summer months, research suggests they may lose up to three months of reading ability. Stop the "summer slide" by taking advantage of free reading resources for students this summer.
