CCSD Earns Top State Awards for School Communications CCSD 2022-23 GSPRA Awards 2 2 23

The Cherokee County School District earned top awards for communications and community engagement including “Best in State” honors.

The Georgia School Public Relations Association’s annual awards program recognizes outstanding work by public schools, school systems, post-secondary institutions, and educational agencies and associations.  CCSD earned the most top honors presented at the association’s awards program held last month with five “Best in State” trophies and 14 Gold Awards.

Liberty ES Earns Recertification as Georgia School of Character Liberty ES State School of Character 2023

A Cherokee County School District elementary school has earned recertification as a Georgia School of Character!

Liberty Elementary School is one of only 73 schools around the world -- and one of only two in Georgia -- to recently be recognized by the nonprofit Character.org as a state 2023 School of Character.

Congratulations to the Cherokee County School District’s 2023 STAR Students and Teachers!

The STAR, or Student Teacher Achievement Recognition, Student honor is awarded to the high school senior from each Georgia public and private high school with the highest score on any single test date of the SAT and who also ranks in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of his or her class based on grade point average.  Each honored student is invited to select his or her favorite teacher to be named that school’s STAR Teacher.

Ann-Margaret Somers of Mill Creek Middle School is the Georgia Science Teachers Association 2022-23 Teacher of the Year for Middle Schools.

CCSD School Nutrition continuously updates school menus to keep up with student preferences, and last semester tested a new item in response to a request from students’ parents.

Board Business Briefs: New School Board Members Take Office CCSD SCHOOL BOARD 2023

The Cherokee County School Board on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023, welcomed two new members to the board.

Newly elected District 5 member Erin Ragsdale of Towne Lake and District 6 member Dr. Susan Padgett-Harrison of Canton were sworn into office at the start of the board’s regular meeting.  Two members whose terms were up for renewal and were reelected also took their oath: District 3 member John Harmon of Hickory Flat and District 4 member Robert “Rick Steiner” Rechsteiner of southwest Cherokee.

Mill Creek Super Speller Captures County Bee Title spelling bee winners

Mill Creek Middle School eighth-grader Joli Palmquist correctly spelled “ascension” and then “importunate” to claim the title as the county’s top speller at the 2023 Cherokee County School District Spelling Bee Wednesday night at Cherokee High School.  Rohan Pandya of ET Booth MS captured second, and Charli Wallace of Creekland MS placed third.
