CCSD Pre-K Lottery Applications Accepted through Noon March 31 prek week

The application window for CCSD's Georgia Lottery Pre-K for 4-year-olds program is open now through noon Friday, March 31.

The program is offered through CCSD at Ball Ground ES STEM Academy, Hasty ES Fine Arts Academy, Holly Springs ES STEM Academy, Johnston ES Preschool, Oak Grove ES Fine Arts Academy and RM Moore ES STEM Academy.  Children who are turning 4 on or before Sept. 1, 2023 are eligible to attend Georgia Pre-K.

Etowah Educator Named 2023 CCSD Teacher of the Year Lara McDonald, Teacher of the Year

The Cherokee County School District saluted educators Thursday night at the 2023 Legacy Makers: CCSD Teachers of the Year Celebration. The Legacy Makers event held at the Northside Hospital Cherokee Conference Center in Canton honored the Teacher of the Year for every CCSD school, including four finalists who were announced in February.  Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower opened an envelope at the event’s conclusion to announce that Etowah High School science teacher Lara McDonald is the 2023 CCSD Teacher of the Year!

The second annual CCSD Employability Fair welcomed 60 select students representing all six traditional high schools to learn more about resume writing, dressing for success, social media etiquette, interviewing and more.

Cherokee County School District students earned honors at an annual statewide literary competition, including two first-place wins!

Tome Student Literacy Society is a national organization dedicated to promoting reading among fourth- through 12th-grade students through club activities, community service and competition.

Annual Shottenkirk Jeep Raffle Raises $180,000 for High School Arts and Athletics jeep drawing

Hector Vicinte of Canton was the winner of the annual Shottenkirk Jeep Wrangler raffle, which raised more than $180,000 for CCSD high school athletics and arts programs this year.  School Board member Patsy Jordan drew the winning ticket on Saturday at the dealership in Canton. High school sports and arts programs sell the raffle tickets for $5 each throughout the fall and winter, and the schools are able to keep all the proceeds.

Cherokee County School District students recently demonstrated their science skills at a countywide competition!

More than 500 students from elementary schools throughout CCSD competed in the Cherokee County Science Olympiad, which offered 18 science challenges and the second annual CCSD Speed Building Competition.

CCSD Career Program Earns State Industry Certification Etowah HS Construction Industry Certification 1 3 23 23

A Cherokee County School District high school Career Pathway program has nailed its state industry certification!

Etowah High School’s Career Pathway Construction and Carpentry program, which is led by teacher Ty Casteel, several years ago began the challenging process of earning industry certification from the Georgia Department of Education and industry affiliate Construction Ready.  Certification is considered an additional “stamp of excellence” for a Career Pathway program.

Cherokee County School District middle schoolers recently tested their STEM knowledge through a countywide competition.

The annual local Georgia Association of Water Professionals’ Model Water Tower Competition, presented by the Cherokee County Water and Sewerage Authority, gives CCSD seventh-graders the opportunity to plan, design and build a water tower.

A Cherokee County School District high school student has placed in the annual all-state art competition!

Woodstock High School senior Emily Coburn is one of only 50 Georgia high school student artists selected for the All-State Art Symposium, held this month at Columbus State University.  More than 2,000 entries from students statewide were entered into the competition.

School Board Members Visit Liberty ES School Board Tour Liberty ES 1 3 15 23

Cherokee County School Board members regularly visit schools for tours with the Superintendent of Schools, members of his staff and the school’s Principal and administrative team.  This month, the visit was to Liberty Elementary School, where the group met with Principal Sandi Harrison and her leadership team, toured the school and enjoyed a CCSD School Nutrition lunch from the cafeteria.  The tour was led by Student Leadership Team members, who created a scavenger hunt with clues to teach the group about the school.

CCSD Begins Kindergarten, New Student Registration for 2023-24 School Year ParentVUE logo

The Cherokee County School District is beginning kindergarten and new student registration for the 2023-24 school year with a new online registration system.

The Synergy system is easy to use and similar to the previous Gateway system that CCSD parents with older children have used.  Beginning March 7, parents of any student who will be new to CCSD for the 2023-24 school year can enter information and upload documents to complete the registration process online.  Parents are asked to complete this process by May to ensure as smooth an enrollment as possible.  Parents whose children already are enrolled in CCSD in grades K-12 do not need to complete this process.
